Houston House Hotel wedding

It's great getting lovely feedback following weddings, this mother-of-the-bride e-mailed:

"The wedding went really well yesterday and your artistry with the flowers was greatly admired, both in the bouquets and at the hotel.  The master of ceremonies at Houston House did mention to me that he had never seen the venue looking so good.  My corsage and Caroline's bouquet with the brooch wired into it was a real tear jerker.

Wedding at Norton House Hotel, Edinburgh

The lovely Michelle and Simon were married in the Garden Suite at Norton House Hotel, Edinburgh. The hotel's sweeping driveway is very grand and the hotel definitely has the wow factor as you approach. You quickly forget you're so close to Edinburgh and the airport as it feels like being in the middle of the country, with highland cows to boot! 

Michelle wanted a Scottish, romantic look to the flowers. I bunched together roses, lisianthus and white and blue thistles along with foliage to create a whimiscal, serendipitous look (one of my favourite styles!).

This bride was trying to cut down on costs for her wedding and was impressed by my competitve prices. She wanted bright pink callas for the buttonholes: 4 buttonholes for adults, 2 for children. I was also asked to make a corsage; I made it with a calla lily, gloriosa, foliage and beads.

An 80th birthday present

I usually do flowers for events that involve at least a few weeks notice. But I received a call one morning asking if I'd make a large bouquet for an 80th birthday present, the bouquet was required that afternoon. As the flower market was still open and I had free time I thought why not! The budget was £40 and this is what I made:

This bride and groom kept their wedding a secret! They were going to surprise family and friends with the good news later that day, after getting married at the Registry Office along the Royal Mile. Since it was a small wedding (!) they just wanted a bouquet and buttonhole:

In Scotland, rose and thistle are a popular choice for wedding flowers and no wonder, the contrast in shape and texture mean they are a good 'marriage'. In addition, many brides like to include purple in their bouquets. Purple for the bridesmaids dresses was very popular in 2011. Some purple flower options include statice, eustoma, calla lilies, phlox, veronica, vanda orchid, freesia, iris, trachelium and anemone.
