Wedding at Winton House, East Lothian

 

 Liz had a clear idea of the kind of bouquet she wanted. Deep reds, peachy pinks, orange tulips, with a variety of foliage in an arty arrangement. The colours suited her complexion. I recommend to brides when they're unsure of which colours to pick, to go with ones that suit them - think of your wardrobe and about the colours you wear.

 

This was my first visit to Winton House in East Lothian and I was really impressed. It's run by the family and it did have a lovely homely feel. The bride was calm and relaxed and had everything in control - she had organised a falconry outing for the guests leaving the house free of visitors so the final preparations could take place before the ceremony.

The bride's friends made these simple table centres with flowers that I provided- gypsophila and tulips in jam jars.

Winton House has beautiful little touches like this curling stone/door stopper. I was part of a recreational curling team when I studied in Canada (we won that year) so I'd like a curling stone door stopper!

This bride corresponded by e-mail so I  met her on her wedding day at the Tigerlily hotel on George Street, Edinburgh.

This couple are huge Hibs fans, but most of their family are Hearts supporters! The ceremony and reception took place at Hibernium Football club in Edinburgh.

Wedding at the Rowantree (The Caves) Edinburgh

The Rowantree in Edinburgh is the smaller of two Caves venues. As you would expect with a cave, there isn't any natural light so the space is atmospherically lit with an impressive lighting rig and there's a good supply of candles too! They've draped fabric across the ceiling, which makes the place seem more luxurious and inviting. 

It was an interesting floristry experience - I basically made the pedestal and table arrangement in near darkness as the lighting was very subdued at that point but the music, on the other hand, was rather loud! On the bright side, I was using mostly white flowers so they stood out in the dim light (light coloured flowers are a must in these venues) and the arrangements looked good under the camera flash.

The bride and groom corresponded by e-mail and I didn't actually meet either of them on their wedding day; I dropped off the bouquets to the bridesmaid, who was wearing a stunning black and white, 1950s style dress. The simple white of the Akito rose bouquet would have looked fantastic.

Funeral tribute for a gentleman

A funeral posy design arranged in foam. I used freesia, spary carnations, chrysanthemums, crocosmia and leatherleaf. 

Flower accessories for a wedding

I made pretty wrist corsages for three girls aged 8, 9 and 10. I wired the spray roses and gypsophila to a bracelet I made out of coloured aluminium wire. It's ideal for small wrists as it's malleable and can be manipulated to fit around the wrist securely.

For the adults, I made a thistle and heather buttonhole, a white carnation buttonhole, and a hair corsage made with lime green chrysanthemums, a small headed pink rose and purple statice. It's important with hair accessories that you use flowers that do not wilt quickly as a lot of body heat is lost through the head. The hair corsage was wired to a butterfly clip provided by the client.
